Tuxedo Optional at Warminster 's New Penguin's Pub
By Carli Russell
Ladies and Gentleman, it gives me great pleasure to re-introduce to you some GOOD NEWS! Yes, good news…don't you recognize good news anymore? Here's some for you: Penguin's Pub has just waddled into town!
Located at 355 N. York Road in the old Philly Crab and Steakhouse building, the Penguin's Pub is Warminster‘s “cool place to be”. The owner's trinity of Brian Dougans , Mike Butler and Claude Mas have created a restaurant for parents to bring the kids, along with a warm pub atmosphere for adults to catch a Flyers game or watch a little March Madness over a couple of homemade appetizers. “We want this place to be home to everyone”, says Dougans, who brings with him 25 years of restaurant experience; 17 of those years with Reed's in Blue Bell. “Brother Mike” Butler is a professional deejay who grew up in Northeast Philadelphia . His creative deejay skills can be experienced every Friday night when he spins hits from the eighties, nineties and today‘s Top 40. Claude Mas brings 13 years of fine-dining restaurant and exceptional customer service experience to the Penguin's Pub. All three seasoned veterans have created a comfortable and inviting atmosphere that is all about families, fun, quality service, great-tasting food at low prices and the best entertainment the Delaware Valley has to provide.
The kitchen is open for lunch, dinner and a late-night dinner menu until 1am, seven days a week. Chef Jenna Hevener prepares every item on the menu fresh in the kitchen. All of the food will be made fresh to order. Breading hand-cut mozzarella sticks or cutting potatoes for “Boardwalk Style” French Fries (tossed with their own “top secret” signature seasoning recipe) will be the standard - not the exception - to the rule. The menu boasts creative twists to standard fare. Among the must-try noshes are the Cheesesteak Eggrolls, Littleneck Steamers and Mini Slider burgers. On the lighter side is a Teriyaki NY Strip Steak Salad that is low-carb goodness! Hot on the entrees are the Southern Fried Chicken Dinner, Fresh Catch Dinner served broiled or fried, and a 365-day a year Thanksgiving Homestyle Turkey Platter served with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and veggie of the day. With entrees ranging in price from $9.99 to $21.99, you gotta give thanks. Children of 11 years or younger can eat for free off of the Kids Menu when accompanied by an adult. Plus, if it is your birthday, you eat for free (up to $15)! Proper ID required of course.
If that doesn't give you ‘ happy feet ', try topping it off with one of 10 different sundaes. Kids will ‘dig' a Smores sundae while the mom's and dad's can relive the day of the Fluff ‘N Nutter in a sundae all it's own. If you find that just reading this puts a few pounds on you, or perhaps you are diabetic, no need to worry because sugar-free Sundaes and Milk Shakes options will have you chilling out too.
Dougans, Butler and Mas are taking a proactive stance to insure a safe and comfortable atmosphere. Sixteen video cameras placed inside and outside will constantly monitor all activity. A crew of trained door managers can be seen on the weekend nights when there will be live cover bands or deejay entertainment starting at 10:30pm. A dress code policy will be in effect on weekends after 10pm restricting oversized t-shirts, oversized/baggy jeans and hats.
Check out happy hour, Monday through Friday from 5pm to 7pm. The bar features 20 different draught beers including Belgium beers and microbrews. “We want to offer our customers some beverage choices they can't get everywhere else” says Dougans. Another proactive decision lets designated drivers drink soda on the house all night. According to Dougans, “We want to be sure that we do everything we can to help everybody have a good time, then get home safely”.
Thursday nights feature ‘Video Deejay' which combines music with videos playing on all of the pub's twenty-two 42” flat screen televisions. The video display coinciding with the beat gives it “great visual effect along with the music” says Butler who desires to “bring something new to the area”. Every Friday, “Brother Mike” will deejay, Saturday nights will feature live music by some of the areas best cover bands. Sunday nights feature Comedy starting at 8:30pm. Packages combining dinner and a comedy show are available making for a great Sunday evening out. Check out their schedule by calling them at: 215-672-IGLU (4458), or visiting their website: www.penguinspub.com . In an effort to keep the place a welcomed establishment in the community, each of the owners of the Penguin's Pub invites anyone with questions or concerns about the new restaurant and pub to speak directly with them. In fact, says Dougans, “We are really anxious to meet the people of Warminster. We want this to be a point of pride for the township.”
